Day Four is Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, which might just be my favourite book. Favourites do vary from time to time, and it's notoriously hard to choose just one book, but there really is something special about Neverwhere. It started out in life as a TV mini-series, but grew into a bigger, more in-depth story that just grabs you and reels you in. I love the world, I love the characters, I love the descriptions, and the magic of the whole thing. Great book.

It's a bit of an odd cover with the head of a rat cropped off. Is there no TV-tie in cover with Paterson Joseph on?

I think I might prefer the rat! Clearly, Neil Gaiman's design team likes to live by the rule of not judging a book by it's cover.

The copy I own has this cover, with a cityscape above and a tunnel below. If you look closely you can see that the colour of the tunnel changes toward the center -- that's because it's a two-layer cover and that there is a cut-out showing part of the second cover illustration underneath. Which is thematically appropriate, but alas they didn't *do* anything with it: there's not a more fantastical version of the city underneath, just more tunnel and a bunch of review quotes.
