Seems I was too hasty in my celebrations - Simon Mac hasn't escaped the clutches of the Casualty Department yet. Shame. Still - here in the wonderful world of... whatever this place is... he's still Jonathon Chase, superhero. Hurrah! It's much more fun turning into a hawk than it is dealing with hospital politics.

So, episode two, and the real Ty takes over. He's better, somehow. Less comedy sidekick, and more of a rounded character. His relationship with Jonathon seems more natural, and there's a sense of the relaxed and easygoing in their scenes together. Brooke is still annoying, though. Well, let's face it - that's not going to change. I've watched all the episodes several times now, and she doesn't improve. There's a certain sense of fun about her, though. She could be a whole lot worse. Rivera seems pretty pointless, mind. He's supposed to be running the police department, but he doesn't even blink when Jonathon suddenly announces that he's going to tail the bad guys. Shouldn't the police lieutenant be saying "Hang on. You're a civilian. Furthermore you're English. Go away and let us do the job."?! Instead he says "How? You haven't got a car," just to set Ty up with a lame line about modes of transportation. Poor Rivera. He never really got to do anything...

A more complex plot this time. A man is using his diplomatic immunity to get away with all sorts of naughtiness, so Brooke can't touch him. He's connected to a magic act that uses animals, but soon one of the magicians turns up dead, apparently killed by the tiger from his act. Jonathon doesn't think that the tiger is guilty, and tries to solve the case in order to save it from being put to sleep. Of course it turns out that Nasty Diplomat Man (Richard Lynch with a bad Eastern European accent - which proves that he's a Very Nasty Man ;)) is behind the death. He's been using the magic act as a cover for a smuggling operation. Jonathon (as a panther) scares him into waiving his diplomatic immunity, and all is well for the falsely accused tiger. Hurrah!

Not the best installment, but entertaining. Very annoying small boy halfway through loses the episode some points, although some of that is offset by the exploding taxi, and Jonathon-as-a-hawk rescuing Ty and Brooke from a runaway lorry. Slightly dodgy hawk leg prop in that scene, but I don't care. I'm a Blake's 7 fan. I'm immune to moments like that. ;)
